Bosnia and Herzegovina finish third in Group B while Qatar bow out of the 2026 World Cup
Switzerland topped Group B and Canada advanced as runners-up after a dramatic round of final group-stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada on Thursday.
The Swiss secured their place at the summit of Group B with a 2-1 victory over the hosts, with goals from Vargas and Manzambi doing the damage for the European side. Despite the defeat, Canada still progressed to the knockout rounds — the last 32 — on goal difference, finishing level on four points with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the other Group B fixture played simultaneously, Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered a commanding 3-1 win over Qatar. An Alajbegovic stunner opened the scoring, before an Al-Brake own goal and a Mahmic strike sealed a convincing victory for the Bosnians, who finished third in the group with four points.
Qatar, who famously hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup and are two-time Asian Cup winners, have been eliminated from the tournament. They become part of a growing list of six nations now knocked out of the 2026 edition.
