SKARDU — The search operation for climbers missing after an avalanche on Broad Peak entered its second day on Saturday, as international rescue teams arrived to reinforce the effort.
According to base camp sources, a three-member Nepali rescue team has reached Broad Peak base camp to assist with search operations. The team is being led by Mingma David Sherpa. A British rescue team is also expected to arrive in Pakistan later today.
Ground Teams Assess Avalanche Risk Before Advancing
On the ground, mountaineers Mingma G and Sirbaz Khan, along with additional rescue teams, are currently assessing the risk of further avalanches in the area. Once that risk has been evaluated, teams are expected to move toward locations identified through drone surveillance.
Death Toll Rises as Search Continues
The avalanche initially left 10 climbers missing on Broad Peak. As of the latest update, the bodies of eight mountaineers have been recovered, while search efforts continue for the remaining climbers.
