UPPER KOHISTAN: The construction of the Barseen Bridge at Dasu in Upper Kohistan on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) has been completed, and the bridge is ready for use.
Measuring approximately 225.5 meters in length, the Barseen bridge was constucted by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), also reffered to as China Civil Engineering Group Co. Ltd. The bridge is being described as major feat of road infrastructure and engineering in Pakistan.
Barseen Bridge is currently the largest concrete arch bridge in Pakistan, which has been constructed under Dasu Hydro-power project. It is part of a 62-kilometer-long new road stretching from Kamila Bazar to Samar Nallah in Upper Kohistan. The project includes the construction of 15 tunnels and 9 bridges on this section of the Karakoram Highway, which is in the process of being completed.
Once completed, the new section of highway will replace the existing KKH alignment which is falls within the area expected to be affected by the reservoir of under-construction Dasu Dam.
Other key features of new alighment are its impoved protection against landslides and reduced travel distance on KKH.
The completion of Barseen Bridge marks another significant milestone in the ongoing development of KKH under CPEC projects.
