Gilgit-Baltistan — The Body of mountaineer Dr. Asma Mushtaq has been located on Spantik Peak and efforts are under way to bring it down, reports suggested on Monday.

According to social media reports, a group of local rescuers have located the body of slain mountaineer, Dr. Asma Mushtaq and is continuing their efforts to bring it down from camp 3.

Dr. Asma Mushtaq died on August 20 while descending from Spantik at an altitude of approximately 6,400 meters, according to Alpine Club of Pakistan President Major General (retd.) Irfan Arshad. Her death was attributed to a high-altitude medical emergency.

The recovery operation had been repeatedly disrupted due to adverse weather in the region. Federal Information Minister, Atta Tarar had said on August 26 that the rescue team had once again set out from the base camp and was advancing toward Camp Two on the 7,027-meter peak, but no further information emerged on the proceedings.

Meanwhile a team of local rescuers from Arandu, headed by mountaineer Mehbood Ali Shigri, have successfully recovered the body of Dr. Asma through their own efforts and informed her family. Mehbood Ali Shigri and his brave team have set a remarkable example of humanity by recovering the body voluntarily and without any compensation.
