Over a Week On, No Complete Winner’s List
More than a week after the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly elections (GB elections), the final list of successful candidates remains incomplete. Election disputes and allegations of rigging have delayed the process, leaving the official outcome in limbo.
The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan initially announced results for 22 out of 24 constituencies, withholding results for GBA-16 Chilas and GBA-17 Darel pending re-polling at select polling stations.
Petition Surge Complicates Process
As the dispute window widened, candidates from several other constituencies filed formal objections. The total number of petitions reached 12. Chief Election Commissioner announced decisions on 10 cases on Tuesday, June 16, with the remaining two — GBA-13 Astore and GBA-16 Chilas — scheduled for Wednesday, June 17.
Constituencies for which decisions were announced include GBA-3 Gilgit-3, GBA-5 Nagar, GBA-8 Skardu, GBA-14 Astore-2, GBA-15 Chilas, GBA-17 Darel, GBA-18 Tangir, GBA-19 Punial-Ishkoman, and GBA-20 Punial-Gupis.
Form-49 Status: 16 Issued, 8 Pending
The Chief Election Commissioner confirmed that Form-49 — the official notification of a returned candidate — had been issued for 16 constituencies, while eight remained pending.
On June 17, the Election Commission issued Form-49 for three additional constituencies: GBA-15 Chilas, GBA-17 Darel, and GBA-18 Tangir. Five constituencies are still awaiting the notification.
Election Commission has also issued final result of GB-13 Astore, rejecting request for re-polling at 3 polling stations, filed by PTI backed candidate Shahida Khursheed and Maj. (R) Fahad Hanif. Rana Farman Ali of PML-N declared winner.
