Re-polling at 9 stations in Two Gilgit-Baltistan Constituencies to Be Held Today

GILGIT: Re-polling will be conducted today at nine polling stations across two electoral constituencies of Gilgit-Baltistan, following reports of disturbances and irregularities during the general elections.

Affected Constituencies

According to the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan (ECGB), re-polling will take place at one polling station in GBA-15 and eight polling stations in GBA-17, both situated in Diamer District. The Commission ordered fresh polling at these stations after receiving reports of electoral irregularities and disturbances during the original voting process.

Background on Contested Results

The Election Commission had previously declared independent candidate Muhammad Dilpazir the winner in GBA-15 Chilas, while Muhammad Naseem of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was declared successful in GBA-17 Darel.

The women’s polling station in GBA-15, where re-polling is scheduled, has 1,180 registered voters. Independent candidate Dilpazir currently holds a lead of 1,436 votes in the constituency overall.

In GBA-17, the eight polling stations set for re-polling collectively account for 8,787 registered voters. PPP’s Muhammad Naseem currently leads by 3,668 votes in that constituency.

Polling Schedule

The Election Commission has confirmed that voting at the designated stations will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today.
