GILGIT: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Parliamentary Party Gilgit-Baltistan held a key meeting in Gilgit on Friday, granting full authority to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to make all decisions related to government formation in the region following the party’s strong showing in the recently concluded assembly elections.
The meeting was chaired by PPP Central General Secretary Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, and was attended by the party’s elected members from across Gilgit-Baltistan.
Participants conducted a detailed review of the election results and expressed satisfaction that the PPP had emerged as the single largest party in the GB Assembly polls. Various options regarding government formation were discussed, with members holding wide-ranging consultations on the future course of action.
In a significant development, the parliamentary party unanimously expressed complete confidence in Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and formally authorised him to take all decisions concerning government formation in Gilgit-Baltistan. Members stated that whatever decision the chairman makes in the broader interest of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and the party would be fully accepted.
The meeting comes a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally invited the PPP to form the government in GB, with PML-N pledging its votes in the party’s favour — strongly pointing toward a coalition arrangement in the upcoming assembly.
