Google Officially Opens Office in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated Google’s official office in Pakistan, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey, according to a statement issued by the tech giant.

Following the establishment of its Pakistan office, Google announced plans to expand major digital programs across the country and deepen collaboration with the government and technology partners to promote Pakistan’s digital economy.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation and said it will continue supporting the country’s ambition to become a regional technology and export hub.

Track Record of Digital Investment

Google’s statement highlighted its existing footprint in Pakistan ahead of the office launch. Since 2022, the company has awarded 350,000 Career Certificate scholarships in the country, with more than 80% of graduates securing new employment or achieving business growth within six months of completion.

Through Google Developer Groups, the company said it has reached 300,000 developers across Pakistan, while its AI Seekho program has trained 50,000 developers in generative AI and Google Cloud technologies. Separately, Google’s Think Apps and App Design Masterclasses have benefited 120 Pakistani gaming and app development studios.

Confidence in Pakistan’s Talent

Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Cluster Director, said the establishment of the office reflects the company’s confidence in Pakistan’s digital future and its talented workforce.

“Google’s local presence, through long-term partnerships, will help create new opportunities in Pakistan,” Qureshi said, adding that the company’s on-ground presence will accelerate the country’s digital transformation.
