Chilas: A military helicopter crashed in Hudur locality of Thore, near Chilas on Monday, resulting in the martyrdom of five personnel on board, local media reported.
According to the spokesman of Gilgit Baltistan government, “five people were on board, including two pilots and three technical staff”. Authorities said in initial statements that the MI-17 helicopter was on a routine mission when it experienced a technical fault. The crew attempted an emergency landing, but the helicopter caught fire after crashing.

Rescue teams, district administration, and security forces immediately reached the site, while local residents also assisted in relief efforts. Officials have initially attributed the incident to a technical failure, though a full investigation has been ordered.
The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan expressed grief over the incident and directed the relevant authorities to take immediate action. The martyrs are being identified, and their bodies are being shifted to a nearby hospital.
