Special Report: Consul General Yang Highlights China-Pakistan Ties at Chinese New Year Media Reception
KARACHI, Jan 29, 2026 — China’s Consul General Yang Yundong on Thursday reaffirmed the strength of China-Pakistan relations and praised the role of Pakistani media in promoting bilateral friendship while addressing a Chinese New Year Media Reception at Chinese Consulate, marking the Year of the Horse.
Speaking to journalists at the reception, Yang said the Year of the Horse symbolizes vitality, passion and success in Chinese culture, expressing hope that the new lunar year would bring progress and achievements for media professionals and for China-Pakistan cooperation.
He said China-Pakistan relations had grown “more refined and resilient” over the past year, with steady progress in practical cooperation, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan. He attributed these achievements to strategic guidance from leaders of both countries, public support, and consistent engagement by the media.
The consul general acknowledged Pakistani journalists for their extensive coverage of China-Pakistan friendship, describing them as a bridge of mutual understanding and a “mirror” reflecting the development of bilateral ties.
He noted that media reporting had highlighted high-level exchanges, strategic trust, economic cooperation and people-to-people links, while also introducing Chinese advancements in infrastructure, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and agriculture to Pakistani audiences.
Yang also praised journalists who have visited China as part of exchange programs, saying firsthand exposure had strengthened people-to-people and cultural ties. He added that media professionals had played an advisory role by offering insights and recommendations to support cooperation, including the development of the “upgraded version” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Referring to China’s economic performance, Yang said 2025, the final year of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, saw stable growth despite global challenges. He said China recorded approximately 5 percent economic growth, with GDP reaching about 140 trillion yuan, driven by reform, innovation and green development.
Looking ahead, he said 2026 marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, with a focus on innovation-driven growth, artificial intelligence, green transition, and high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative. He reiterated China’s commitment to opening-up and sharing development opportunities with partner countries, including Pakistan.
Yang said 2026 holds special significance as it marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. He referenced the recent visit of Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to China, during which both sides launched commemorative activities for the anniversary.
Calling China-Pakistan friendship an “ironclad” and enduring partnership, Yang urged media professionals to continue playing a constructive role in telling the story of bilateral relations and supporting the building of a China-Pakistan community with a shared future.
He concluded by extending New Year greetings to the media community and expressing confidence that China-Pakistan ties would continue to reach new heights.
Mr. Nasim Haider, Geo News Controller, also addressed the gathering and shared his experiences from his recent visit to China. He cited the remarkable development of China’s automobile sector as an example, explaining how Chinese products are increasingly dominating the global market.
